Hi, I think the it has its root in the word 'diet'. Di-et means what you eat and that is the meaning. On the other hand 'diabetes'. Di-abetes means abets which is a Spanish word for tree. Abetes is plural. Hence it means things you should not eat. What do you think of that? Please help. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
